The fund seeks capital appreciation in the long term by investing in companies across any size in the United States.
The investment process starts with a list of companies in the benchmark index and the research team utilizes quantitative techniques and fundamental analysis to identify investment opportunities.
In selecting securities for the Long Portfolio, the research team focuses on individual long stock positions by identifying companies that are experiencing positive changes that may lead to a rise in their stock prices.
However, in selecting securities for the Short Portfolio, the research team focuses on identifying companies that are experiencing negative changes that may cause their stock prices to fall.
The team also invests in money market and cash-equivalent investments, such as U.S. government-backed securities, or agency securities.
Then the manager constructs a portfolio of stocks from a list of companies favored by the research team and allocates capital based on its conviction level.
The manager allocates assets across long, short and cash positions in an effort to mitigate market risk, while employing fundamental and technical analysis in an effort to mitigate stock selection.
The fund may also invest in municipal or corporate bonds of any maturity, rating or quality.

Also, the fund may from time to time invest a significant portion of its assets in issuers within the financial or real estate sectors, or in technology companies that service, in particular, financial and/or real estate industry companies.
